After more than 30 years of private practice, teaching, and supervision, Walt remains enthusiastic and inspired by the healing process. He founded one of the first Vietnam Veterans Counseling Centers funded by the Veterans Administration and since then has been at the forefront of the treatment and research in the area of trauma and addiction recovery. Walt has taught at many of the local colleges and universities in these subjects as well as spiritual approaches to psychotherapy and Integrative Psychology. Dr Rutherford is an innovative educator in Integrative studies, and a community leader in the emergence of Tibetan Buddhist healing methods. He is known for his group leadership, expertise in teaching and ability to build communities that are therapeutic and healing relationships. He and his wife, Rev. Bonnie Tarwater, share four children and have lived in San Diego for over 20 years.
